Show off your alternate art cards on BGA

Bring a fresh look to your decks with a brand-new alternate art selection tool on the Altered Re:Union website. Alt art cards can now be played on Board Game Arena after an absence of several months. This new option builds on our milestone for continuing to improve the online play experience.

This is a great new opportunity to enjoy the vibrant artwork of Altered from Beyond the Gates all the way to the newly added Roots of Corruption set. Every player has access to some alternate artwork already, and playing in our organized tournaments provides a chance to add even more to your collection.

For players who scanned in or earned alt art cards on Altered.gg, import your digital collection through our import tool. Once you do that, you’ll be able to choose those alt art cards that you’ve earned from past booster packs, events and tournaments.

For new players, some are already available on your Re:Union account, and you can earn more by playing online.

Alt art cards are linked to digital ownership. Some alt art cards are available to all players, such as the tokens from each set or the original Musubi set from BTG. Others, such as previous Adventure Pass rewards, must be a part of your digital ownership collection to be available for use. We will provide new ways to add more alternate art cards to your digital collection through online play.

Introducing digital art cards into online play is a great way to discover the work of the talented artists who supported Altered, some of whom are a part of the Re:Union community and will be involved in our future projects.

How do you add these alt arts to your decks?

There are two easy ways to add alt art cards to your decklists: You can add them individually, manually, to your decks or you can globally apply your alt art selection to all your existing decks.

To add alt arts manually to your decklists, open the deckbuilder on Re:Union and enable the “Alt arts” filter. You can add as many copies as you own and they’ll automatically appear on BGA when you select your deck.

To choose your alt arts globally across all your decks, select the “Cards” menu in the navigation bar, then “Alt art preferences.” Switch the button at the top of the page from “Set per deck” to “Set globally” and scroll down to browse through the alt arts. Click each to set the art throughout your decks.

With either method, remember that you can only add up to the number of alt art cards that you currently own. If you only own one copy of an alt art card, you can add that copy plus two standard art versions to make a full playset. If you add more alt art than you own, BGA will automatically default the extra cards to the standard art.

If you were among the luckiest or the most talented players, you can also choose one of the alternative heroes from your collection. For serialized heroes, due to storage limitations, the base-numbered version is currently displayed. We're currently working with BGA to address this limitation so you'll eventually be able to display your own uniquely numbered favorite hero. You can also customize your deck even further by selecting your preferred token design from the deck edit page by simply clicking on “Choose Token Illustrations.”

Alt arts have always been one of the most rewarding parts of participating in local tournaments, and we're thrilled to finally give players the opportunity to use them digitally.

As previously announced, some of these alt arts will be awarded as prizes for our first RoC Qualifier and the Pre-Con Deck Tournament. The prize distribution tool was released alongside this feature and the first distributions will begin shortly.

If an alt art isn’t displaying correctly in BGA, please make sure to create a bug ticket (visual art) on BGA. That will help the team solve the issue quickest.

Building and maintaining ways to experience each of the sets on BGA are among our milestones for the community. As a fully volunteer team, Re:Union’s mission is to preserve the future of Altered’s gameplay, making it accessible and open to as many players as possible.
